This was probably taken in 1998. I had harnessed up and climbed out of the globe at the top of the Smith Tower intent on dropping down the side of the pyramid to unseal the gothic windows but I was so scared I couldn’t get myself to move, let alone work on the windows.
So my friend from Pioneer Masonry, ended up climbing outside and with me on the inside we cut open each gothic window and with some steel cutting and hinges, we made them operable.
His wife had just died in a car accident and so, while he was out there, he put a plate honoring her just South of the flagpole. It doesn’t get many visitors but knowing it is there on the tip top of the tower, is lovely.
