Do Ho Suh’s Gate and Santa’s footprints

We decided to have Santa visit a couple weeks early to make time for our trip to Guatemala and Belize.  Naomi and Simone dusted the floor with flour hoping to get some tracks from Santa’s boots or reindeer paw prints but it turns out flour isn’t so great at catching foot prints.  There were marks but it was hard to ascertain what they were from.  But good news, the cookies and milk were gone and the tree was full of presents.  The girls dug right in and made short work of liberating the toys.

It was dawn and the girls thought they saw Santa off to the left headed toward Mt Rainier.

We decided to spend the rest of the day kicking around town, seeing Do Ho Suh’s “Gate” at the Seattle Art Museum, riding the carousel, playing in the market toy shops, and counting Santas.   We traditionally do a little Santa counting treasure hunt for a prize.  ”Gate” is a powerful piece.

Homework in the Globe

Naomi and I kept Simone company while she did her homework.  She graphed the number of fireboats, ferries, rooftop satellite dishes, buses, pink cars, horse-drawn carriages and bicycle carriages and calculated the “range.”  Then she drew a detailed picture of the scene in front of her and wrote about it with the most specific adjectives she could think of.
